Yang Shu
Yang Shu, Associate Professor of Piano and Master's Supervisor at the China Conservatory of Music. From 1991 to 1995, she studied in the Piano Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under the renowned pianist and educator Professor Zheng Shuxing. After graduating in 1995, she was assigned to teach at the China Conservatory of Music. In 2005, selected and sponsored by the China Scholarship Council, she was sent to study in the Piano Department of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Russia, where she studied piano performance under Larida Nikolayevna, chamber music under Olga Igorevna, and piano accompaniment under Elena Iyevseyevna. She obtained a Master's degree in Piano in 2007. During the two-year master's program, she performed a large number of works including piano solos, chamber music ensembles, and art songs, gaining a deeper and more concrete understanding of the musical grasp and interpretation of works from different periods and styles, with particular insight into the teaching and performance traditions of the Russian piano school.
Since her appointment in 1995, she has taught piano courses at various levels at the conservatory. In her teaching, she emphasizes the concept of student-centered learning. She guides students in attitude, motivates their initiative in learning, cultivates their habit and ability to think diligently, and fosters a positive and interactive classroom atmosphere. Her teaching has yielded evident results, with students showing significant professional progress. They have repeatedly won major awards and achieved outstanding results in various domestic and international competitions. She herself has received multiple awards for Best Instructor. She has also been invited by institutions such as the School of Music of Jiamusi University, the International Chinese Art Festival Piano Competition, and the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy to conduct public masterclasses at music colleges and festivals both in China and abroad, as well as to serve as a judge for piano competitions. She holds the position of Visiting Professor of Piano at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy.
While teaching, she is also dedicated to research on piano pedagogy and performance art. She has published several academic papers in national Chinese-language (music) journals and core journals, including The Nationalization Process of Chinese Piano Composition and Reflections on the Nationalization of Piano Educationand A Brief Discussion on the Significance of Chinese Piano Works in Piano Teaching. She has received the Second Prize in the "China Conservatory of Music Young and Middle-aged Teachers Professional Course Teaching Competition," the First Prize in the "China Conservatory of Music Multimedia Teaching Software Competition," the title of "Advanced Worker" at the China Conservatory of Music, and the "Education Pioneer" teaching and education individual advanced award from Beijing Municipality.
